Services to celebrate the life of Harvey L. Wood are scheduled for 2 PM, Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Calvin Hubbard of Barksdale Baptist Church will serve as officiant. The family will welcome friends from 1 PM to 2 PM on the day of the service.

Silas S. and Dena Stevens Wood welcomed Harvey Lawrence into this world on March 27, 1924 in El Dorado, AR. Harvey served his country, first by joining the Army, then re-enlisting; this time in the Air Force where he retired in 1964. After retirement from the military, his skill as a mechanic earned him employment at Red River Chevrolet and the Veterans Affairs office in the printing department.

Harvey was a lifetime member of Barksdale Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion where enjoyed mowing the lawn. He loved his family, helping his neighbors, watching old western movies and listening to "real" country music. This soldier was called home from the battlefield of life on Sunday, November 26, 2017.

Preceding Mr. Wood in death are his parents; his loving wife of 68 years, Billie S. Wood; and two brothers, Monroe O. Wood and Carl D. Wood. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jerry L. Wood with wife Pam and Ricky G. Wood; daughter, Vickie A. Warnock with husband Buddy; sister, Ruth Russell; sister-in-law, Pat Wood; grandchildren, Christina W. Hughes with husband Stephen and Jeremy D. Wood; great grandchildren, Dillion C. Hughes and Alexandria C. Hughes; cousin, Oretha Miller; special friends, Marvin Shoemake and Ed and Nell Sturdivant; and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the comfort care unit staff at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, the staff at Point of Grace Medical Services, LLC. , and the staff at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their compassionate care. They would also like to thank Dr. Bipin A. Turakhia and Dr. Anil Chhabra for their excellent care.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the "Reveal God's Plan Fund" at Barksdale Baptist Church, the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
