Devoted husband and father, Bud is survived by his wife Marianna; adoring dog Happy; daughter Lyn; son Clay (m. Cindy), grandchildren Will, Patrick, Matthew, and David James; daughter Melissa Jackson (m. Bud is lovingly remembered by family, many friends and neighbors as being a gregarious, friendly and kind person, and a true gentleman. He enjoyed a full life of happiness with his wife of 51 years. He loved being at the beach house with his grandchildren, with the Clays, Coles and Chases, and walking with his beloved dog, Happy, along Caswell Beach. He cheered for his Orioles and Nationals.

Born in Alamance County, NC, Bud was an Army Veteran and had distinguished careers with the FBI as a Special Agent, stationed in Nevada, California and the VA/DC Bureaus; and Pentagon Federal Credit Union as its Financial Security Officer.

Bud settled in Alexandria, Virginia in 1973 and was an active sailor and member of the Mt. Vernon Yacht Club, serving as Commodore. He and Marianna moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2010. Bud graduated from Wake Forest University in 1954 and from UNC Chapel Hill Law School in 1961. In retirement, he was an avid volunteer at the Mt. Vernon Hospital and at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
