HAZEL PHILLIPS COX COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP, LOUISIANA Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Phillips Cox, of Bastrop, Louisiana, will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Harmony Baptist Church with Reverends Mike Loveday and Alan Eppinette officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 19th, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church. Ms. Hazel was born at Cheniere in Ouachita Parish on January 9, 1937 to the late Luther Ellis Phillips and Mary Hazel Fowler Philips. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 17, 2018 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. Along with her parents, Mrs. Cox is preceded in death by a special son-in-law, Jay Robinson, a sister, Murrell Phillips, and a brother, Arthur Phillips. Hazel was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church and a retired nurses aide and housekeeping supervisor with 47 years of service at Morehouse General Hospital. She enjoyed fishing, watching and feeding birds, and flower gardening. She also devoted time each day to reading her bible. Hazel Cox was loved by all fortunate to know her. Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband Donald Cox, Sr. with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage on May 1st. She is also survived by her three children, Donald Cox, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, Ronnie Keith Cox and his wife, Mary, and Cheryl DeLane Robinson, all of Bastrop, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, Joshua Cox and his wife, April, Parea Hall and her husband, Brandon, Trent Cox and his wife, Brittney, Mason Robinson and Delaney Mayo, Mya Robinson, Natalia Fowler and her husband, Matt, D. J. Albritton, and Cole Maples and his wife, Molly; two sisters, Elsie Yarbrough and Gloria Jane Phillips; and a host of great-grandchildren and extended family. The family of Mrs. Cox wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Carter Cox and staff, Mr. Steve Pearce and staff at Pearce Pharmacy, the nurses and staff at Morehouse General Hospital, Jordan Home Health and all who attended to Ms. Hazel's care through the years.
