Helen (Deveau) Flaherty, 98, of Littleton died on December 16, 2014 at Concord Health Care Center in Concord. She was born in Boston on July 14, 1916 daughter of the late Lawrence and Delphine (Boudreau) Deveau and was the wife of the late Francis (Red) Flaherty who died in 1998. She grew up in Medford and was graduate of Medford High School in 1935. She had made her home in Cambridge, and Boston and married Francis in 1943. They summered in Littleton from 1948 to 1956 when they became permanent residents.
Helen was employed as a secretary for Colonial Travel Service Inc. in Boston from 1935 to 1940, as executive secretary to the Northeastern Division Manager of Loew's Inc. (MGM) of Boston, from 1940-1955, and then as executive secretary to three presidents of W.R. Grace & Co. in Cambridge MA, Nashua NH and Lexington MA.
She was a member of St. Anne's Church in Littleton, St. Anne's Sodality, Charter Member and Secretary of the Lake Matawanakee Assn for 41 years and a past Chairman of the Welcome Committee. Helen was the first secretary of the Massachusetts Arts Lottery Council. She was an active member and former secretary of the Littleton Lyceum, a member of the Littleton Historical Society, the Littleton Senior Citizens Club and the former Littleton Grange No. 420. She also volunteered over 1500 hours of service at Emerson Hospital.
Her survivors includes nephews Robert Flaherty and his wife Abigail of Brandon, MS, 2 nephews Lawrence Deveau of Adrian, MI and Richard Flaherty of Castro Valley, CA. Her goddaughter Marsha Hayek of Lancaster, MA, her best friend Susan Cummings of Littleton and many good friends and neighbors in the Lake Matawanakee community.
Visiting Hours will be held Friday Dec 19, 2014 at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne's Church, 75 King Street, Littleton Saturday December 20, 2014 at 9 am.
