Helen Harbin Magee, Gadsden, entered her eternal home in Heaven on Aug. 5, 2017.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel. The Revs. Larry Fuhrman and Mat Alexander will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
A native of Gadsden, Helen was the daughter of Estelle and Luther Harbin. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where she received her degree in Business Administration and was chosen as an Outstanding Student along with 10 others in a graduating class of 900.
Mrs. Magee retired in 1991, having been a secretary for 10 years and a realtor for 20 years.
Helen was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden and also of the Rejoice Sunday School Class and the WMU.
She participated in the Country Club Terraces Garden Club, Gadsden Woman's Club, Civitan Auxiliary Club, the 21 Club. She also worked for five years as a volunteer for Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Magee is survived by her son, David Magee; daughter, Melanie Magee; brother, Robin Harbin and wife, Barbara; son-in-law, Jerry Hughes; special cousin, Nell Taylor; and sister-in-law, Nita Carmichael. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jordon and Jesse Magee and Christopher, Zachary, Isaac, Anna Grace and Will Hughes as well as great grandchild, Elwin Magee.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Luther and Estelle Harbin; husband, J'Ada "Rock" Magee; brother, Bill Harbin and daughter, Pamela Hughes.
We would like to offer special thanks to Sheryl, Irene and the ladies at Printup Beauty Shop; Amedisys and Alacare Hospices who assisted with her health issues over the past few years and to Home Instead.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Gadsden or a charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
