Helen Leola (Styck) Brown, 89, of Kearney, MO, passed into Eternity on Nov. 21, 2017, in Liberty, MO. Helen was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Shelby, IN, the daughter of James Styck and Frances (Parks) Styck McClanahan. Helen married Norbert "Bert" J. Brown on July 18, 1946. Helen is survived by brother James Elwin Styck of IL; son-in-law Rev. Donald Smith; daughters Frances McDonald, Laura Lumsden, and Betty Santiago (husband, Pete); 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Cherie Cleveland Smith, son-in-law Wayne Cleveland and son-in-law Bob Lumsden. Helen was raised near Morocco, IN, and graduated from Morocco High School in 1946. While in high school she won a local beauty pageant. In 1965 Helen and Bert moved to KCMO. Helen enjoyed being a housewife and caring for her daughters and their families. She enjoyed entertaining and made her home a hub of family parties. Helen also enjoyed gardening and flower arranging. Helen was a volunteer with various church activities. She was currently a member of Kearney First United Methodist Church. Beloved mother and grandmother, Helen led by example; she was always generous, welcoming and accepting to everyone. A celebration of life will be held on what would have been her 90th birthday, Jan. 4, at 6 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home 6600 NE Antioch Road Gladstone, MO. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
