Helen Cullity Gassen, 84, died on April 15th, 2017. She was born in Troy, NY on December 23rd, 1932 to William Cullity and Mary Agnes Casey. She is survived by her son Jim (Maureen) Gassen Jr. of Princeton, IL, daughter Helene (Clyde) Lollis of Atlanta, and first cousin Sister Marie Wilson, CSJ of Latham, NY. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jim Sr. Helen and Jim lived much of their lives in the metro New York City area, and more than 35 years in Charlotte, NC.

Her final years were spent in “the neighborhood” at Belmont Village in Sandy Springs, GA, where she was surrounded by the love and support of amazing ‘pal’ caregivers and nurses. At Belmont, she enjoyed special moments and gave others great joy.

Helen was a musician and actress – performing in musical comedy and opera, directing concert choirs, and teaching piano and voice to many young students. She loved travel, holidays, and wine. She was a lifelong learner and teacher, engaging others to learn everything from tai chi to line dancing, and finding the perfect Irish blessing or Dickensian poem for any occasion.

A funeral mass celebrating Helen’s life will be held on Friday, April 21st, 2017 at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 1350 Hearst Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. A reception will follow at the home of Helene and Clyde Lollis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Opera Carolina, an organization with which she volunteered countless hours, dedicated to ‘the art form of opera, based on timeless tales set to the world’s most glorious music,’ www.operacarolina.org.
