Helen Pauline "Polly" Power was born on September 5, 1927. Her parents were Charles and Christine Power and she was their only child. She grew up in Parr, South Carolina and attended the Jenkinsville schools. She then attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina with a degree in Medical Technology. She was registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. After graduation she moved to Savannah, Georgia. She was employed by Saint Joseph's Hospital, Memorial Hospital and the Howard Clinical Laboratory.

She attended The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension in historic downtown Savannah where she met her future husband, Fredrick J. Hart, Jr. Polly and Fred were married at Trinity Lutheran Church located on the shores of the Broad River in Parr, South Carolina. They had two sons and three grandchildren: Charles Frederick, his wife Cindy and their son Freddy of Atlanta and Hansel Brodrecht, his wife Leigh and daughters, Christine and Kathryn of Irmo.

After their retirement in 1988, Polly and Fred moved to a beautiful home on Lake Murray. They shared many happy times at this special place enjoying their children, grandchildren, and longtime friends, Martha Counts, Jim and Phyllis Metts and loving neighbors. They especially enjoyed watching the yearly returns of the eagles to nest on their property.

Polly and Fred were faithful members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in downtown Columbia. They shared these wonderful times together until his death in 2004. Polly recently joined Grace Lutheran Church in Prosperity to be near her home.

Polly was a remarkable and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Her faith and love of God is what carried her through this life and into the next. Well into her eighties, her favorite thing was mowing several acres of grass while driving her John Deer garden tractor. She maintained her beautiful house and yard until the end. When weather permitted, Polly and her good friend Martha would be in the yard raking leaves, planting or pickup up twigs.

She will be missed by all who shared times with Polly as they traveled this life together; her friends; neighbors; and dog, Buster. Her godson, Dr. Brian Cline and cousins; Sandra and Whit Cline, Patsy and Michael Burkhold, Alice Markowitz, Ron Wilson, Woody and Martha Power and their families.

The family would like to give thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice, Dr. Madden, Dr. Fravel, Pastor Michael Price and Wayde and Sally Dominick who supported her with her medical needs.

Flowers are appreciated and memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 210 Grace Street, Prosperity, SC 29127; Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1301 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201; and The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 6 East State Street, Savannah, GA 31401.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial in Prosperity Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. following the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is assisting the family.
