Helen R. Heflin Obituary

Helen Rice Heflin, age 91 died Monday, February 15, 2021, at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond, La. She was born October 28, 1929, in her family home in Mayslick, Kentucky to the late Harvey and Ola (Callahan) Rice. Helen was a former school teacher and librarian. She did volunteer work for many years at East Jefferson Hospital and St. Tammany Hospital. She loved to play bridge, cook, and sew she also was very active in the different churches she belonged to.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Heflin who passed away April 19, 2010, a sister Gladys Stanfield, four brothers Julian Rice, Early Rice, Roy Rice and Omer Rice. She is survived by her daughter Karen Nelson (Steve), of Hammond, La and her son Darrell Heflin (Becky), of Carrollton, Tx and their 3 sons Matthew Heflin (Erin their 2 daughters Hannah and Madison), Steven Heflin and Zachary Heflin (Ellen). She is also survived by two sisters Mariola Brohaun (Charles) of North Carolina and Eleanor Hubbard (Joe) of Kentucky.

Helen will be cremated with services at a later date in Texas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
