Helen Rowell, 90, of Albany died Sunday at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House. Born in Roseburg to George and Achsa (Davenport) Wilson, Helen grew up riding her horses on Mt. Nebo in Roseburg and attended Roseburg schools. She married Jack Rowell in 1949 in Roseburg and together they raised racehorses. Jack was an electrician and they lived in several Oregon communities including Bend, Redmond, Lapine and Lebanon. Her annual flower sale was highly anticipated by many. Helen was active for many years with Willing Workers, the North Albany based community aid organization which provided quilts and whatever they could for the comfort of North Albany residents in need. Through Willing Workers, she was able to help raise funds for periodic improvements to the Palestine Church. While in Redmond Helen was a member of the Redmond Saddle Club. Survivors include sons John of John Day, Bob of Florence, Dan of Stayton, Mike of Lebanon, and Jim of Albany; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. A funeral service will be at 1pm Friday June 23rd at Fisher Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Palestine Cemetery. There will also be a celebration for Helen on July 1st at 3pm at her home. The main dish will be provided at 6pm. Those attending may provide a side dish, salad, or dessert.
