Helen Williford Outlaw of Bristol VA passed away peacefully on August 28, 2017.

Helen was born August 31, 1939, the only daughter in a family of five sons to Reverend A.B. Williford and Rosa Phipps Williford.

While her father served as a Chaplin in World War II in Europe, Helen grew up in Waynesboro VA with her grandmother, mother, and brothers. After the war the family relocated to Richlands VA.

An accomplished athlete, Helen played basketball at Richlands High School and later at King College in Bristol. It was at King that Helen would meet her future husband Tim Outlaw, a basketball player on the men's team. Tim and Helen married in August 1959 and spent 48 wonderful years together until Tim's passing in 2007.

Helen spent her career as an elementary teacher in the Bristol VA school system, primarily at Washington & Lee Elementary where she touched thousands of lives.

She and Tim were long time members of Bristol VA's Central Presbyterian Church.

Helen is survived by two sons, Mark Outlaw, his wife Alyce and children Mac and Caroline of Crozet VA, and David Outlaw, his wife Angie and children Alexander, Hillary, Andrew, Arianna, and Clayton, and great-granddaughter Tesla, all of Colorado Springs CO. Four of her five brothers survive, Joe, Graham, Charles, and Archie.

A memorial service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol VA on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Helen's name to the music program at Central Presbyterian Church.~
