Henry (Hank) Lewis Ammerman passed away peacefully at his home in Lee's Summit, MO on January 14, 2018. Celebration of Life to be held from 6-8PM on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Floral Hills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Knox Village Foundation-for hospice care, 400 NW Murray Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64081.

Hank was preceded in death by his wife Joan Ammerman, son Brian Ammerman, and daughter Nancy Ammerman. He is survived by his children Kathy Zmek (Dennis), Karen Wansing (Joe), Steve Ammerman (Cindey), and DJ Gordon (Scott); his sister Charlene Murphy; and 10 grandchildren; as well as many great grandchildren and other relatives.

Hank was born in Kansas City, MO, on August 16, 1929, to Joseph and Julia Ammerman and graduated from Northeast High School in 1946.

Hank was a WWII Vet serving as a police officer with the Marine Corps stationed in Guam from August 1946 to July 1948 and loved to tell the many stories of his adventures there.

He was always a hard worker starting as a young teenager, holding many jobs, and never stopping until his retirement from the U.S Postal Service.

His greatest hobby was the love of the chess game. He would challenge himself with his electronic chess boards, with others at the community center, and anyone else who was up for the challenge.
