Herman Jasper Bumgarner, 86, of Lenoir passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Caldwell Hospice in Hudson.
Herman was born October 13, 1933 in Burke County to the late Ivey Patton Bumgarner and Vera Rhyne Bumgarner. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Herman worked as a mechanic for over fifty years. He was a championship bowler, competing in many leagues and tournaments.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Bumgarner and Ivey Bumgarner; sister, Sue Southerland; son, Dale Bumgarner; and step-son Ronnie Sain.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Cook Bumgarner of Lenoir; children, Ed Bumgarner and wife Wanda of Hickory, Tonya Brinkley of Hickory, and Sherry McKown and husband Scott of Hickory; step-children, Butch Sain and Crystal Mayhew of Vale, Terry Sain and wife Missy of Newton, and Helen Williams of Vale; grandchildren, Myranda Yates and husband Larry of Hickory, Keeley Bumgarner and Misty Sosebee of Chickamauga, GA, Sarah Butler of East Ridge, TN, Aubrey Porter and husband Derek of High Point, Taylor Franklin of California, Preston Gronek of Hickory, Teran Metcalf of Vale, Bobby Sain, of New York, Megan Williams of Vale, Garrett Sain of Vale and Bethany McCall of Vale, and Jordan Sain of Newton; great grandchildren, Phoenyx Yates, Maverick Yates, Macie Butler, Daleyn Evitt, and Tessa Metcalf; and one sister, Doris Norman.
A memorial service will be held 7:00PM Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with the Rev. April Abernathy officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care with attention to the Jack and Shirley Robins Center at 902 Kirkwood St. NW Lenoir, NC 28645.
