Mrs. Hermine Virginia Willoughby, daughter of the late Joe and Naomi Thompson Benjamin, was born October 15, 1933 in Florence County. She departed this life on Monday, November 21, 2016 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Hermine was a 1951 graduate of Wilson High School. She was formerly employed with Wentworth Manufacturing Company and later Florence School District One from which she retired. Early in life, she was converted and became a member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church. She served on the Jubilee Choir, the United Workers, the Missionary Society, and other ministries of the church. She was also a charter member of the Mary Perkins Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #292. On January 26, 1957 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Monroe Willoughby and to this union, one son was born. Those left to cherish her memory include: her devoted son, Milton L. Willoughby of Washington, DC; one sister, Minnie Smith of Effingham, SC; two nephews, Eugene Smith and James Allen Smith, both of Effingham, SC; two sisters-in-law, Azalee Willoughby of Effingham, SC and Ruby Gilbert of Florence, SC; two brothers-in-law, Harvey Willoughby of Philadelphia, PA and Sidney Gilbert of Florence, SC; two godchildren, Cheryl Robinson and Barris (Christy) McWhite, both of Florence, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
