Hollis Chester Bender, 86 years old, of Mears, went to be with his Jesus Monday, November 21, 2016 in Hart, Michigan. He was born August 5, 1930, Shelby Michigan. The week before his passing, he was trying to get out of bed and the nurse asked him where he was going? He told her that "He was going to see Jesus!" He left a legacy of loving the Lord Jesus Christ, his family, and others. He always waved and smiled to people and tried to encourage others. He was preceded in death by his wife Elva Louise (Bentley) Bender and his brothers Victor and Ray Bender. He was survived by brother William Bender and sister Janellyn (Bender) Herin. Sons George with wife Deb, and Ken with wife Colette. Grandchildren Gwen/ Andrew, Luke/Erin, Tyler, and Adam/Candice. Great grandchildren Lilia, Evan, Treavor, Isaac, Iris, June and Jessa. Hollis enjoyed and was very active in 4-H in various areas. He graduated from Shelby High School and attended Michigan State University for four years. He enjoyed showing cows and farming. He was active in church and very supportive of his son George's ministry with Wycliffe Bible Translators and his son Ken's ministry in his church in Florida. He was a long term member of the Wesleyan Church and had even worked at the Conference Camp Ground. He had lived in the Saginaw, MI area around forty years and worked as a machinist before coming back to his home area to retire. Hollis was in Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart for the last six years. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle Christian who had great love for his wife, family and church, as well as others that crossed his path. The family will receive friends at 10 am, Monday, December 5th at Hart Wesleyan Church, 3757 W. Polk Road, Hart, MI. The funeral service will follow at 11 am at the church. Graveside service afterward, weather permitting.
