Howard (Bud) Fisher Mease, 71, died Thursday, March 30th, 2017 at Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer.
He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Virginia Mease, and Karen (Zukauckas) Mease, his wife of 46 years, who passed in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Georgia (Herschell) Sumner-Mease; his 2 children, Vince (Julie) Mease, Louisville, KY, and Kristen Mease, Asheville, NC; 5 grandchildren; and 4 siblings, Barbara Mease (Virginia Beach, VA), David Mease (San Francisco, CA), Janet Mease (San Luis Obispo, CA), and Jeff Mease (Bloomington, IN).
Born and raised in Bristol, OH, Bud traveled the world, first as an exchange student to Sweden and all over Europe in high school and college. Later he joined the US Navy where he and his young family were stationed in Taiwan.
In his early years, Bud helped with the family grocery business and graduated from Lake View High school (Cortland, OH) with the class of 1964. He went on to major in Economics at Hiram College where he graduated in 1968.
Bud built and managed several businesses throughout the Midwest during the course of his career, including Sparkle Market grocery stores in Cortland, OH and Vienna, WV before moving to Louisville, KY and founding the financial planning firm bearing his name, Gilliam, Mease, and Associates.
A lover of the beach and travel in general, he was fond of the Jimmy Buffet line, "changes in latitude, changes in attitude." Even while battling a terminal illness, he approached life with a smile and inspiring joyfulness.
A memorial service will be held at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN on Sunday, April 9th, 2017, 2:00pm, with a reception to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to IU Hospice House, P.O. Box 1149, Bloomington, IN 47402 or a charity of your choice.
