Hubert Jess Kaylor, Jr., age 64, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017.
Mr. Kaylor was born on August 4, 1952 in Richmond Virginia, son of the late Hubert Jess Kaylor, Sr. and Martha Blackwell Kaylor.
Mr. Kaylor proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam conflict, as Senior Flight Engineer on CH-47 (Chinook helicopters). He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat. He also earned two Bronze Stars for Valor in Service. He attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK where he completed his aviation training. After school, he began his career in aviation in Alaska and British Columbia with Era Aviation, fulfilling contract flights with multiple oil and gas companies and well as the Department of Defense. He later transitioned to providing training for Arctic Aviation and Marine Egress and Survival. He was an avid outdoorsman and a lover of all of God's creatures and rescued any that were in need. He loved spending his spare time on the water fishing in his boat in Alaska. His heart's passion was loving and supporting his sweetheart of his youth and his wife of the past fifteen years, Sheila.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Kaylor Summerhays.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Jones Kaylor; son, Aaron Jess Kaylor; daughter, Melissa Kathleen Kaylor; step-son, William David (Erin) Chaney; step-daughter, Erin (Nicolas) Chaney Jones; sister, Judy (Jerry) McCann; step-grandchildren, Rylee and Branna Chaney; father-in-law, Roy A. (Betty)Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Raiden and Sherry Rogers; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 25th of May, 2017 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Foley officiating. Interment will follow at two o'clock in the afternoon at Georgia National Cemetery with military honors presented.
Serving as pallbearers are Raiden Rogers, Brian Massey, Nicolas Jones, Hugh Wilson, Jody Brown and Jayden Brown.
Friends are cordially invited to a gathering with the family at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 25th of May, 2017 until service time at Owen Funeral Home.
