Hubert Malcolm Furlong along with his twin brother Herbert Ernest Furlong, were born at home January 6, 1928 in Troy, Alabama to Rufus Earl and Vera Mash Furlong. Older siblings were Earl Nathan Furlong and Marjorie Furlong (Oswalt). The family moved to Montgomery when the twins were young.

Mr. Furlong enjoyed an idyllic childhood with family and friends. After attending Sydney Lanier High School, he attended the University of Alabama where he marched in the Million Dollar Band. He later attended Perdue University.

While he taught plumber apprentice classes early in his career, most of his career was spent working with firms such as Mosely and Yarborough Engineering and Charles Cline Architecture. He retired from his own consulting company in 2003.

He was a kind and devoted Christian husband, daddy, and granddaddy. He served God by shining God's light in every aspect of his day as well as serving as a deacon and elder at Dalraida church of Christ for many years.

Hubert married Ellie Mae Bird on August 25, 1950, 67 years ago. Together they raised two girls; Bonnie Kay Campbell (Dennis) of Montgomery and Diane Furlong Sumney (Jerry) of Lexington, Kentucky. Their five grandchildren are Brian Campbell (Michelle), David Campbell (Neely), of Montgomery, Elizabeth Borders (Jason), Kelso Washington, Victoria Bennett (John) Lexington, Kentucky, and Margaret Sumney, Clarksdale, Mississippi. Great grandchildren are Emma Grace and Colton Campbell, and Dylan, Brandon, Chase and Isaac Campbell.

Hubert died at home Sunday December 31, 2017 peacefully and joyously, surrounded by family.
