Ira Mitchell "Mitch" Caffey went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at his daughter's residence in Ft. Worth. Funeral services will be Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10:00a.m. at University Church of Christ, 733 EN 16th St., Abilene, TX, with burial following in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 Hwy. 277 S., Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mitch was born in Seagraves, TX, on June 4, 1929 to Rupert and Naomi Caffey. He graduated from ACC in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving his country during the Korean War. Mitch married Jewel May Clark on June 2, 1956 and obtained his Master's Degree. He then began his teaching career, teaching in NM and TX. He retired in 1986, which allowed him to work full-time for the Sojourners and mission work, including teaching at European Christian College in Vienna.
Preceding him in death were his parents; Jewel (wife); and Edwin (infant son). Survivors include his children, Gerry and Dottie Caffey, Vivian and Mark Ayers, and Alan and Linda Caffey; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 20 brothers and sisters; and numerous extended family and friends.
