WAYNE, Irene, Age 91, passed away on March 25. The daughter of Polish immigrants, Irene grew up in Hamtramck and lived in Grosse Pointe Farms. A graduate of Wayne State University, she taught in the East Detroit public schools. During World War ll, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" making bombers for the war effort. A woman of many talents and good cheer, Irene was an accomplished pianist, a talented artist and an exquisite seamstress. She studied in New York at the Traphagen School of Fashion before returning to metro Detroit. In her later years, she focused her attention on quilt making, winning many prizes. She was predeceased by her husband, John, and is survived by daughters, Leslie, of New York, and Lynne, of Grosse Pointe Farms. Visitation Wednesday at from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier, Grosse Pointe Woods.
