Ires L. Kimmell, age 95, of New Era, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Muskegon, Michigan. She was born September 20, 1921 in Bloomingdale, Michigan to Edward and Lora (Kane) Smith. She married Ralph Horton in 1940. They operated the Village Market Grocery Store in Bloomingdale for eighteen years. He passed away in 1964. She married Forrest Kimmell in 1967. Mrs. Kimmell lived in Port Charlotte and Ocala, Florida for twenty-seven years before returning to Michigan. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family who loved her "frosting bread". Ires was always a "worker". She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Forrest preceded her in death in 1979. She is survived by her son, Edward (Joann) Horton, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Horton; grandchildren, Tim (Melissa) Horton, E.J. (April) Horton, Jason (Kimberly) Horton, Rob (Cindy) Johnston, Jeremy (Annalisa) Horton, Dr. Zachary (Leslie) Horton, Todd (Diane) Bown and Sophia (Brian) Fase; seventeen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Virgie Tipton. Mrs. Kimmell was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Frank Reese in 1999 and her son, Dr. Ralph Horton, Jr. in 2006. Graveside services will be held in Robinson Cemetery, Gobles, Michigan on Saturday, July 1 at 1 pm. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.
