Izetta Reece Spencer, 81, left her earthly home on March 28, 2017. She was a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church in Dallas, Texas, where she was an active member of the Silver Star. Izetta was born in Augusta, Texas, and was the youngest of four children born to the late Clifford and Reba Reece. Here two brothers, Clifford, Jr. and John L. also preceded her in death.
Izetta (Zet), as she was fondly called by her parents, siblings and close friends, was a “spark of life” to all that knew her. She loved to tell jokes, pull pranks and genuinely catch loved ones off their guards, to her delight.
Zet began her early years of education in the public schools of Shepherd, Texas located in San Jacinto County. Her junior high school years were at St. Peters Academy in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas. Following her high school graduation, Zet matriculated to East Texas to join her sister at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. There she completed four years of study in Business Education. Upon completion of her degree, Zet accepted a three year term with the college. After three years, she accepted a position at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina, where she met her future husband, J.C. Spencer, Jr. Shortly after their meeting, they were united in marriage. They would later move to Los Angeles, California to be near family. Though no children were added to this union, it was here in Los Angeles, where together they would raise his grandchild, Thaddeus, as their own.
Zet is survived by her sister Pearl Harrington (Dewitt), sister Sharon Evans (Dallas), brother Reginald Harrison (Cynthia), grandson Thaddeus Carroll (Laurel), four great grandchildren Shylise Powell, Shayde Carroll, Shakayde Carroll, and Shalane Carroll: great great granddaughter Eaden Powell; nieces Terrnina Harrington-Haywood, Demetrica Reece, Pilar k. Evans, Keisha Carr, Tasha Carr and Brenda Reece Anderson; nephews Zackary Reece, Troy Reece, Reginald Harrison, Jr., Brandon Evans and Braxton Evans; great nieces Jorenda Green, Tianikwa Haywood, Joclyne Jones, Roshandra Haywood, Regina Harrison, Jonae Wallace; great nephews Terric McKnight, Christopher Brown, Zachary Reece, Jr., Zevin Reece and Anthony Wallace; close friend Essie Ruth Abrams Mosley and a host of other family and friends. Husband J.C. Spencer, Bellenthia Wallace (niece) and Rodney Harrington (nephew) preceded her in death.
Zet was energetic woman, who was greatly loved by staff and students at Livingstone College. She was always willing to help and assist others. Her heart was Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Zet served numerous years as the Undergraduate Advisor for the Alpha Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Livingstone College, Salisbury, North Carolina.
Zet is gone from our sight, but her memories abide with us forever.
