J. Kenneth Truckey ATHOL- J. Kenneth Truckey, 82, of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, Riverbend Woods, died late Saturday evening, May 8, 2010, at home following a long illness, with family at his side. Born in Orange on October 7, 1927, he was a son of Wilfred and Melba (Trask) Truckey and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High in 1946. A veteran of World War Two, Ken served in the United States Navy from April 10, 1945, until his honorable discharge on August 3, 1946. While in the Navy, he was a Hospital Apprentice, Second Class and received a World War Two Victory Medal. Ken was married to Dorothy (Donais) on February 18, 1950, and have enjoyed their 60 years together. Briefly employed by the Erving Paper Mill, Ken later went to work for the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange and after 41 years, retired in 1989. Ken had started at Hunt's as a welder and then became foreman of the Stainless Steel Department, before becoming the Assistant Personnel Manager. A member of St. Mary's Church in Orange, Ken had served on the Finance Committee. Ken was also a Lifetime member of the Orange Historical Society and had served on the Board of Directors. He was a 60 year member of the Orange American Legion, a former member of the Athol-Orange Elks Lodge #1837, a trustee of Franklin Technical, and a director and trustee of Athol Memorial Hospital- North Quabbin Healthcare. Ken loved to play cards with family and friends as well as attending his granddaughters Mikayla and Anna's school sporting events. He made some beautiful furniture and was skilled at furniture refinishing as well. Ken and Dottie had enjoyed going to York, Maine for 15 years vacationing as well as going to Dennis on Cape Cod. They had spent 20 years wintering in Newport Richie, Florida. Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy Truckey of Athol; sons, Michael Truckey and his wife, Jean, of Erving, and Bruce Truckey and his wife, Sherry, of Delta, Colorado; grandchildren, Mikayla Call and her husband, Byron, of Bernardston, Anna Truckey of Erving, Delvine Dillingham and her husband, Chris, of Alaska, Adria Thompson and her husband, Tom, of Golden, Colorado, and Joanna Truckey of Maine; great grandchildren, Nicheala, Odessa, Dillon, and Parson; a sister, Althea Flint of Florida; several nephews and nieces; his sister in law and brother in law, Warner and Irene Rice of Orange; and his son's dog, "Pierson", who was a great comfort to Ken during his illness. Ken was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred Truckey, and sisters, Maxine Graham and Beverly Hayward. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 18th, from 9:30- 10:45 a.m., at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 18th, at 11 a.m.in St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange, with Fr. William Lunney officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in South Cemetery, Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Endowment Fund, 19 Congress Street, the Orange Historical Soceity, Inc., P. O.
