Heritage Funeral Service
It is with great sadness that the family of Monroe Franklin announces his passing after a lengthy illness on Saturday November 26, 2016 at Duke Hospital. He was the husband of Lynn Stirewalt Franklin. They shared 32 years of marriage together.
Born in Avery County on May 16, 1952 he was the son of the late Coeburn Virginia Franklin and Cordia Woodie Franklin. His passion was playing guitar at his home church of Covenant Baptist in Granite Falls. His hobbies included drag racing, hunting and fishing. He was a skilled ASE certified auto technician with Frank Teague Automotive and Racing, and was previously employed with Steve White Motors.
He is survived by his wife Lynn; a son, Cody and his girlfriend Katie Skidmore; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Priscilla Stirewalt; siblings, Rick and wife Ann Franklin, Gary and wife Darla Franklin, Carolyn Pugh, Cora Benfield, Susie Wood, Norma Moyer and husband David, Maggie Grant, Teana and husband Gerra Rowe, Patsy and husband Clark Little. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Newman and brother-in-law, Jerry Wood.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday November 30, 2016 at Central Baptist Church in Hildebran, with Rev. David Bean and Danny Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
