J.C. "CHARLES" WHITAKER COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP, LOUISIANA Mr. J. C. "Charles" Whitaker, was born June 15, 1930 at Lonoke, Arkansas to the late Sherman Whitaker and Ila Burgess Whitaker. He passed away peacefully May 15, 2018 at the Fairfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, Texas. Mr. Whitaker was a longtime resident of Bastrop, Louisiana before moving to Texas to be closer to family. Charles was a retired iron worker, a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was also a former light-heavy-weight professional boxer and an avid gardener. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Wanda Whitaker and a son, Richard Whitaker. Charles is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Martha Whitaker, his daughter, LaJane Vinson and her husband, Darty of West Monroe, Louisiana, two sons, Dennis Whitaker and his wife MaryLou of Buffalo, Texas, and Mark Whitaker and his wife, Becky of Fayettville, Arkansas. He is also survived by a sister, Mildred Hogan of West Monroe, Louisiana, a brother, William Butler of New Orleans, Louisiana, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19th, at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop followed by funeral services for Mr. Whitaker at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Committal services and interment will be at the Carter Cemetery near Collinston, Louisiana under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Alex Vinson, Andrew Bridges, Jason Whitaker, Chuck Whitaker, Eric Whitaker, Jonathan Whitaker, and Chandler Jones.
