EASTOVER - Jack Arthur Boyer, Sr., 85, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 after a long and fearless battle with cancer. Born in Columbia on November 9, 1931, Jack co-owned Boyer’s Country Meat Market with his brother Clyde. The meat market was originally founded by his late father, M. C. Boyer in 1925.
Jack was kind and generous and loved by all who crossed his path, never meeting a stranger who didn’t become a friend. His lifelong dedication was to God and his family. The love of his life was his wife of 62 years, Patricia Wingard Boyer, who survives him. A member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in recent years, Jack was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Columbia for more than 75 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, M.C. Boyer and Evelyn Dent Boyer; his sister, Florence Boyer Dallas; and other loved ones. Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia; his two children, Patricia Kimberly Boyer, MD, of Charlotte, N.C. and Jack Arthur Boyer, Jr. (Melanie Davis Boyer) of Eastover; three grandchildren, Daniel Coleman Hayes of Charlotte, N.C., Callie Boyer Smith (Daniel) of Norfolk, V.A., and Rebecca Ann Boyer of Eastover; his brother, Clyde A. Boyer of Columbia; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Main Street United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
His family would like to express thanks to the Levine Cancer Center, Charlotte, N.C., Charlene Rhodes and the staff of Always Best Care of the Midlands, and Palmetto Health Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.
