Jack M. Sawyer passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the age of 87. He was the partner of the late Jim Gerwick. Brother of John Sawyer (Margery M. Sawyer) and the late William Henry Sawyer, Jr. (Mary L. Sawyer). Uncle of Mylinda S. Moore (Christopher W. Moore), Gay Marie Simons, and Vikki Shelton.Great uncle of Caroline Moore, Leeanna K. Simons and William S. Simons.



Longtime friend of Tom Cottom and Mike Mayo, Ruth Bodenheimer, Art Johnson, Anna-Marie Jene, Rebecca Newman, and the late Margie O’Dair Boyle and Sharon Litwin. He is also survived by many other dear friends.



Jack attended and graduated from Chicago School of Drama and Columbia University. He was a Corporal in the United States Army where he served in Europe and Korea. He was an avid collector of fine glass, which was located at his Waveland, MS home when Katrina hit the area. After Hurricane Katrina Jack donated his collection to New Orleans Museum of Art. The exhibition titled Style, Form and Function: Glass from the Collection of Jack M. Sawyer, was on display from February until April of 2009. He was a longtime supporter of the New Orleans Symphony. Jack worked as a director of public television and directed the beloved Atlanta show “Miss Boo.”



The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Lana Leonard for her loving care and friendship during his illness.



In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans Symphony, The Waveland/Bay St. Louis Library, or a charity of your choice.
