Jack W. Pitts born March 20, 1932 went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2018. Born the son of Carey Fletcher Pitts and Myrtle Butler Pitts, he was the youngest of seven children growing up in Gantts Quarry, Alabama located on the outskirts of Sylacauga. He joined the Army at the young age of 16 serving in Germany, Korea, France, and Vietnam. He earned 2 Bronze Stars, The Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, 2 Army Commendation Medals, Good Conduct Medal with 6 Clusters and other commendations during his almost 25 years of service. Following the Army, he formed Southeastern Energy Corporation and was very active in the Alabama Independent Oilmens association serving as Vice President from 1979 to 1980 and President from 1980-81 earning the Oilman of the Year title in 1980. He was inducted into the Petroleum and Convenience Marketing Association Hall of Fame in 2015. He was a member of the Hayneville Baptist Church, Hayneville, AI., as well as a Mason and a Shriner.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Thomas M. Pitts, sisters, Lois Pitts Bannister, Sarah Pitts Moseley, Mildred Pitts McMahon, Frances Pitts Malouf and Marie Pitts Saxon.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Esther Hodge (Ginny) Pitts, sons, Jack R. Pitts (Julie), Lowndesboro, AI.; Thomas M. Pitts (Crystal), Orange Beach, AI; daughters Linda Wachsmuth, Omersbach, Germany; Patricia P. Fountain (Mike), Millbrook, AI.; Rhonda S. Worley (Chris),

Tampa, FI; and Kathy L. Bell (Chris), Prattville, AI.; 17 grandchildren Anna Meir (Oliver),
Johannes Wachsmuth (Tania), Jordan Pitts, Jack W. Pitts, II, Chad Fountain (Ashley), Brad Fountain (Laura), Chelsea Nichols (Clay), Shelby Pitts, Abby Pitts, Hannah Schaneville, Scott P. Schaneville, Jr., Lukas Worley, Junah Worley, Lucy Bell Spurlock (Sellers), Hunter Bell, Sydney Bell, and Tyler Bell and 5 great grandchildren, Emery Fountain, Collier Bell, Cade Nichols, Elliot Fountain and Gates Nichols.

The funeral service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Andy Hepburn officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. just prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
