Jacqueline "Jackie" Mae Ellis Hursey passed away at age 73 on July 18, 2017 after a courageous and selfless battle against brain cancer. She was a wife, mother, teacher, and friend. Born to Harold Kenneth Ellis and Clara Virginia Whitehead Ellis on August 31, 1943, Jackie was raised on the Hartman Farm in Columbus, Ohio along with her siblings Paul (Bobbie), Thomas, Leroy (Kay), and Harold Roger (Charlane) Ellis. Jackie was a graduate of the Hamilton Township Class of 1961 and an alumna of The Ohio State University majoring in elementary education. On November 15, 1969, Jackie married Forest Glenn Hursey who preceded her in death. Together they raised their two children Jennifer (Troy) Gantz and Forest Clinton (Nicole Jones). Jackie dedicated her life to raising her family spending countless hours preparing "home cooked" meals, volunteering for and at various organizations to support her family's interests, and instilling in her children the importance of maintaining loving and caring relationships with faith, family, and friends. Jackie was an active member of The Alexandria United Methodist Church for over 45 years, most notably being a steadfast member of the church choir. As Jackie was preparing for her children's higher education, she re-entered her teaching career with Licking Heights Local Schools as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher. The positive impact she had on her students throughout the years can be seen in the lifelong relationships she established with them outside the classroom walls.
When Jackie became known as "Grandma Jackie", she retired after 25 years as an educator, and once again directed her undivided attention and dedication to her five grandchildren: Andrew, Owen, Lauren, Madeleine, and Forest Leland Gantz. Jackie spent countless hours cheering for, guiding, and nurturing her grandchildren just as she had done with her own children. In addition to providing love to her grandchildren, Jackie enjoyed gardening, patronizing local libraries, and going on excursions with her life-long friends during her retirement years. Together, Jackie and Glenn could also be seen biking the many bike paths across Central Ohio. A memorial service for Jackie and Glenn will be held on July 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at The Alexandria United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alexandria United Methodist Church or the Alexandria Public Library.
