James Alfred Mangum passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana surrounded by his family. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Aaron Anslum Mangum and Lula Davis Wetzel.



After graduating from Byrd High School, he attended Louisiana State University and was a member of the 1955 NCAA Championship golf team and a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.



He is survived by his wife, Barbara Elizabeth Hopkins, and their four children: James Bryan Mangum (Shannon Wall), Deborah Elizabeth Mangum Saul (Steven J. Saul), Charles Aaron Mangum (Elaine Scheffer), and John Francis Mangum. He is the grandfather of 10 grandchildren: James Christopher Mangum, Amy Elizabeth Marie Mangum, Christopher Davis Saul, James Brennan Saul, James Alfred Mangum II, Chandler Olivia Mangum, William Courtland Mangum, Charles Edward Mangum, Piper Daye Mangum and Marin Reya Mangum.



Jim inspired his family and others to be the best they could be and to strive to make a difference in the world where they live. His memory and wisdom live on in the grandchildren who love and respect the heart of this great man.



At the time of his death he was an investment counselor at Merrill Lynch.



A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans, at 10am on Friday, March 24, 2017.
