James "Jim" Harler was born April 2, 1928 to James O and Billie Irene Harler in Charlestown, West Virginia. He died December 19,2017 in Lee's Summit which had been his home since 1957.





Jim graduated from Maulden, high school and attended Morris Harvey University until he joined the army in 1951. Before he was shipped to Japan he had the honor of singing in a concert with Robert Merrill. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean conflict.

After discharge he came to Kansas City where he attended Central Technical

Institute. He attended Hyde Park Christian Church where he met his wife, Mary Ann.

They were married March 12, 1954. They had owned son, David who had one daughter Kimberly Mathia (Marshall) He is also survived by two great granddaughters, Miah and Lily and three nieces and one nephew. He enjoyed a close and meaningful relationship with them. They were each very special to him.



They continued at Hyde Park until it closed.. Then moving their membership to Longview Chapel Christian church, where they remain as active members. While attending he started a communion-to-shut ins program and he was so proud of getting the Christian Men's-Fellowship organization started and it is still active.



Jim had a great love of music and always sang in the choir. He loved every bit of it whether singing in a group or solos or duets with Mary Ann.

HE played trumpet and while in the service was often called on to play taps or

Revelry on a bugle. He real hero was Harry James a well know trumpet player of our era.



Jim worked at the Gas Service Company in Lee's Summit drawing schematics and maps for Lee's Summit and surrounding territories. A career that he enjoyed for 35 years.



HE will be missed by all who knew him as husband, dad, grandpa uncle and friend.
