Dr. James Edward Ricciardi died on November 22 under the loving care of Poydras Home and Notre Dame Hospice. He was 75 years old. He is now at peace after a long battle against Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on April 28, 1942 to Dr. and Mrs. Ignatius Ricciardi in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife Pamela, children Andrea and Daniel, and grandchildren Evan, Nathaniel, Grace, Jameson and Lillie. He is also survived by his siblings, Joanne, Carl, and John.

Dr. Ricciardi graduated from the University of Wisconsin and Marquette University Medical School. He completed his surgical internship at the University of Michigan before serving in the US Army where he rose to the rank of Captain. He then returned to the University of Michigan to complete his Orthopedic Residency. He went into practice with an Army colleague as a partner with the Maryville Orthopedic clinic in Maryville, Tennessee where they raised their children.

At age 50, Dr. Ricciardi pursued a fellowship in Spine Surgery with a desire to enter academic medicine.

Upon completing his fellowship at Tulane Medical Center, he joined their faculty. He enjoyed teaching, doing spine surgery, and lecturing internationally. After the death of Dr. Thomas Whitecloud, his Chief of Orthopedics, mentor, and dear friend, Dr. Ricciardi accepted a position on the faculty of LSU Medical Center where he retired in 2009.

The funeral will be held at Christ Church Cathedral at 11 a.m. on December 8 with visitation from 10-11 a.m.Following the service there will be a private service for the Interment of The Ashes.

The family requests memorials be designated to the Music Program at Christ Church Cathedral and the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
