Mr. James F. Dukes, 71, died Thursday afternoon (August 10, 2017) from heart disease. He was a native and lifelong resident of Ware County and graduate of Waycross High School. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science from Georgia Southern University. James retired from Ware County Health Department as county health inspector after 35 years. He was a deacon of First Christian Church, and he loved to garden, fish and read Georgia history. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War as a specialist. James is preceded in death by his parents, William Francis Dukes and Alice Woodard Dukes; and one brother, William W. Dukes. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, LuAnn Bashur Dukes of Waycross; one son, Andrew Dukes (wife Alayna) of Macon; and one cousin, Patty Westberry of Waycross. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday (August 14, 2017) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.musicfuneralhome.com.
