Jim was born in Newport, Michigan on May 30, 1938 to James and Laura Friar. He was one of six children, himself, being the youngest. Jim was a carpenter by trade and served as recording secretary for Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, Local 1301. He often spoke of how much he enjoyed his work and fellow workers. Jim was a simple man and had a great love for the outdoors. He made his home in Bradenton, Florida for the last 23 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Laura Friar, step brother, Charles Brooks, Bradenton, Florida and sister, Florence Bussell, Clearwater, Florida.Surviving family is his loving wife, Dolores, six children, three sons, David Friar, Scott (Dennise) Friar, Steve Friar, two step-sons, David Schafer and Mark Schafer and one step-daughter, Lisa (Brad) McMichael. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren, sister, Bessie Irene Berry of Monroe, Michigan, brothers, Hubert (Joyce) Friar, Homestead, Florida and Clifford (Bea) Friar of Monroe, Michigan. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 22, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, Tremainsville Rd at Alexis, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am on Friday. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, 4210 W. Central Ave, Toledo, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethel Lutheran Church, 1853 South Ave, Toledo, Ohio.
