James Gordon Ajac, age 81, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 with family by his side. He was born October 15, 1935 in Hanover, PA to Dr. John Clarence Ajac and Lily Wilson Ajac. He grew up in Miami FL and in 1970 moved to Raleigh, NC. He graduated from Coral Gables High School (1954), attended University of Miami and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He served in the US Air Force Reserves; worked for Aerodex in Miami, FL and was a KFC / Taco Bell Franchisee in NC.

Jim will be remembered for his kind hearted, quiet personality and quick wit. He had a lifelong interest in aviation and had his private pilot's license. He spent much of his retirement flying around the world on his flight simulator. He also enjoyed woodworking and above all being a Papa to his adoring granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Porter Ajac (Sweetie), daughters Kimberly Ajac Hammerstein and Pamela Ajac Freeman (Philip Giffin Freeman), and son Scott James Ajac; and granddaughters, Audrey Grace Hammerstein and Sophie Frances Hammerstein all of Raleigh. Also surviving are his brother Dr. Ian Ajac of Winter Haven, FL; his sister Donna Hines of Brecksville, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm with a Chapel service at 5:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh). Family and friends are also invited to a reception at Loading Dock Raleigh (1053 East Whitaker Mill Road in Raleigh) immediately following the service. A private entombment for family will be held Friday.
