James J. Sears, 91, of Holyoke, formerly of Fairview, passed away peacefully Sunday January 1, 2017 at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Michael and Ellen (Tighe) Sears, and was a graduate of Rosary High School. He attended St. Michael's College and was drafted into the United States Army in 1944, where he received a Bronze Star for his bravery. Jim was a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield and Holyoke, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the U.S. Postal Union, a former member of the Springfield Chordsmen, and a communicant of the former Holy Cross Parish in Holyoke. Jim was predeceased by his wife Ethel M. (Jubinville) Sears in 2012. He is survived by a daughter: Christine E. Sears of Easthampton; a son, James E. Sears and his wife Mariellen of Sandwich, MA; a brother, retired Colonel Michael Sears and his wife Mary of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren: Nicholas Crussana and his wife Roxanne of Easthampton, David Crussana of Amherst, Julie (Sears) Pasquino and her husband Jon of Holden, MA, and Jessica Sears of San Francisco, CA; four great-grandchildren: Luke Kevin, Teagan, Nicholas, and Luke James; and a sister-in-law Constance "Connie" Sears of Holyoke. Jim was predeceased by two brothers: John F. Sears and Patrick "Ed" Sears. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke, followed by Mass in Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church at 10:00am. Burial will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
