COLUMBIA - James James “Jim” Leventis, 55, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 13, 2017. Jim was the son of Toula Prekezes Leventis and the late James Pete Leventis. He was born February 10, 1962 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was a 1980 graduate of Brookland Cayce High School, a 1984 graduate of the University of South Carolina and a 1988 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.

A loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Jim practiced law for over 30 years in Columbia and he was a partner in the Leventis and Ransom Law Firm. Prior to opening his own law firm in Columbia, Jim was a law clerk for the late Honorable Sidney Floyd in Conway, South Carolina. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was an avid Gamecock fan and loved riding his bike in Ft. Jackson and visiting with his Mom.

Jim was most proud of his three children, Sarah Glenn Leventis (16), James Pete Leventis (15) and Katie Hollis Leventis (14). The only thing more important to Jim than enjoying his children’s participation in soccer, lacrosse and Boy Scouts, were his week-long vacations with his children to places far away. Second to his children were Jim’s family and friends. Jim lived his life to the fullest. With his hearty laughter, Jim lit up every room he entered with a bellowing happy voice, and he always had a kind word or a compliment to anyone that was fortunate to have him in their life. In short, Jim never seemed to have a bad day. Along with his children and mother, Jim is survived by his brothers Leigh James Leventis (Jenny) and Nick James Leventis, his sisters Elena Leventis Skipper(Bill), Gigi Leventis Lewis (Robert) and Athena Leventis, his twelve nieces and nephews, all his Leventis cousins, his former wife and mother of his children, Katie Hammock Norris and so many of his special friends including Mike Hayes, Rob Ransom and his paralegal Delloris Ackerman-Hill. He was predeceased by his father and his nephew, Jamie Leigh Leventis. Jim will be greatly missed, but his memory will be eternal.

The visitation will be on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Main Street from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Trisagion Prayer at 6:30 p.m. The funeral will be on Monday, April 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Memorials may be made to the James P. and Toula P. Leventis Law School Endowed Scholarship Fund Office of USC Development Columbia SC 29208; the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Memorial Fund, 1931 Sumter Street Columbia SC 29201, or to a charity of one’s choice.
