Jim Chapel Sr. passed away September 12, 2017. He was living at Aspen Ridge Memory Care and was 82 years old. He was born in Missoula, Montana July 9, 1935. He was one of 5 children. He found his way to Central Oregon in the early 1950’s where he met and later married Ellen Chamness Chapel. They had two children, Tammie and Jim II. During this time he became a Funeral Director and Embalmer. He continued this path right into retirement, working at several different funeral homes. He loved hunting and fishing, and volunteered much time to community service. They include being Past master of the Masonic Lodge where he earned his 50 year pin, member of the of Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce where he was President in 1976, served with the Boy Scouts, was a volunteer Fireman for 8 years, a member of the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. On Oct 17 1976 Mr. Chapel came upon a accident where he pulled 2 women from a burning car saving the women’s lives This earned him the Red Cross Certificate of Merit. The highest award given by the American Red Cross. Jim was preceded in death by His wife Ellen Chamness Chapel, His parents Roy Chapel And Lillian McCart Chapel, and a sister Sherley Stocke. Mr. Chapel is survived by his brother Roy Chapel, and 2 sisters Bea Gettys, and Sharon Wonders. His 2 children Tammie Pickett and Jim Chapel II, as well as 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 6th at 2:00 PM in the Niswonger-Reynolds Chapel. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
