James Allen “Jimmy” McClard Jr., age 89, of Hot Springs, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, December 23, 2016 after having spent a wonderful day celebrating the Christmas Holiday amongst family.

He was born on April 22, 1927 in Hot Springs to James Allen McClard Sr. and Elizabeth Birmingham McClard. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers named Leo, Patsy and Charlie, as well as six sisters named Mary, Josephine, Rheta, Elizabeth, Shirley and Clarice, in addition to his most beloved son, James Allen McClard III.

Family was at the center of all he did in his life, and although his existence began rather simply, his hard work and dedication to that same family provided the passion necessary to accomplish a great deal during his lifetime. Whether subdividing land and constructing affordable housing or by executing more commercial ventures, the desire to provide for those he loved most was always the driving force behind most of his actions. Even in the pursuit of fun and entertainment, his family was always by his side. He gave us much, and he will be well missed. Mainly, he taught us heroes don’t necessarily have to run into a burning building to save you time and time again.

In addition to his other accomplishments, he also served in the Navy during World War II where he spent time in both the Philippines and Australia, and although tough times once drove him to seek work as far away as southern California, he could never remain separated for too long from his beloved Arkansas where he grew up and where most of his relatives continued to reside. Like those of us he fathered, I’m sure he would consider his greatest achievement the family tree he helped sire and nurture for all of his days.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Joann, two daughters Regenia Morgan and husband John and Joyce Stacks with Bill Metzer, both of Hot Springs, as well as former daughter-in-law, Karen McClard of Forest Park, IL. He adored his five grandchildren Jennifer Stacks Hinojosa with husband Scott of Hot Springs, Emily Harrison Young with husband Wake of Little Rock, Chris Stacks and his wife Tara of Bismarck, Josh McClard and his wife Jessica and Anna McClard Pope with husband Matt, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas. During his life he was honored to welcome seven great-grandchildren into this world named Grier, Hunter, Charly, Bayley, Savannah, Isabella and Harlow. Finally, he is also survived by one remaining sibling, a brother named Bob McClard with wife Helen of Bismarck, Arkansas among many other nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr.’s Amy Faulk and Yuba Acharya, in addition to Randy Hall, APRN and the nursing staff at CHI St Vincent whose compassionate care made these last few weeks so much easier to bear.
