On Tuesday, May 2nd 2017, James Numa Pezant went to be with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian Pingel Pezant, daughter Lisa Pezant Rickert, son-in-law Bill Rickert, and granddaughters, Annelise and Katherine Rickert. Jim was preceded in death by his sons, James, Jr. and Michael and his parents, James Jacques and Adelaide Flores Pezant.

Jim was born November 9, 1924 on St. Ann Street in New Orleans. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in Okinawa with the 445th Bombardment Group. After returning from the war, he attended Tulane University, graduating with honors in 1951. Jim worked for the City of New Orleans for 30 years and retired in 1981 as the Director of Research Staff for the City Council. During that time, he received a master’s in Political Science, working towards a doctorate from the University of New Orleans. In retirement, Jim pursued his love of coins and became a registered Numismatist. Fascinated with coins by his love of history, this became his second career, buying and selling coins, notes, guns and more.

A dedicated civil servant, Jim served in many leadership positions. In the American Legion Pontchartrain Post #228, he served as 1st District Chief, Commander, Vice Commander and School Award Committeeman, co-chair of Bells across the Nation Program and Treasurer of the 1st District from the 1950’s - 1980’s. During that time, he also served as the Chairman and Procurement Chair, 1st District of the Louisiana Pelican Boys State Program. Jim served as President of the Coronado Height/Merle Manor Civic Association, President and Stewardship Chair of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and Stewardship Chairman of Lamb of God Lutheran Church. A life dedicated to service, Jim always felt blessed and wanted to give back.

His greatest legacy is that he was a loyal and loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
