HUGHES, James P., age 78. Of Newton Highlands, MA, formerly of Brookline died unexpectedly on October 11, 2017. Devoted husband of Annette M. (Haberger) Hughes for 53 years. Loving father of Jennifer Sweeney and husband Stephen of Plymouth, Kristen Hughes-Locke of Needham and Heather Marden and husband Kevin of Natick. Adored papa to Conaire Locke, Logen and Aidan Hughes, Cal and Chloe Marden, Lana and Mia Sweeney. Beloved son of the late Patrick and Sarah (Doyle) Hughes of Brookline. Treasured brother of the late Joan Lanciano and Patricia Fazio. Jim will be deeply missed by many sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a multitude of lifetime friends. Retired C.E.O. and President Brookline Municipal Credit Union 50 years of service. Former President of the Credit Union League of Massachusetts. Graduate Brookline High School class of 1957. Veteran U. S. Air Force. Jim had a love for Boston sports with a passion for hockey. He was a longtime player, dedicated youth coach and avid fan. Funeral from the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., BROOKLINE, Monday morning at 9:10 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Brookline at 10:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 – 7:00. Interment Walnut Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jim made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN. 38105 or www.stjude.org or the N.E.
