James P. McHale Sr. of Montrose, NY formerly of Croton on Hudson, NY passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the age of 80. He was born to Patrick James and Bridget (O'Sullivan) McHale on September 1, 1936 in New York City. James spent time growing up in Cuhig, County Kerry, Ireland. He graduated from Croton Harmon High School. James married Gilda "Judy" Germinaro on October 6, 1962 at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. He served in the US Army from 1960 - 1962. James retired as a corrections officer at Sing Sing Correctional facility after over 20 years in 1984. In 1971 James founded JP McHale Extermination Service Inc., later known as JP McHale Pest Management Inc. James was an avid golfer and enjoyed sitting in his favorite chair at Hollow Brook Golf Club. He cherished the time spent with family at his lake house in Copake Lake, NY. James will be remembered as a larger than life personality who had a talent for storytelling.
James is survived by his beloved wife Judy McHale, cherished sons James P. McHale Jr. (Jennifer), Douglas McHale (Ellen), and Richard McHale (Lisa), adored grandchildren James III, Liam, Aidan, Margaret, Douglas, Devin, Riley, and Morgan, and by his caring brother Thomas J. O'Connor. James was predeceased by his brothers Walter McHale and Donald McHale. James leaves behind many close cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 3-8PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 15, 2016, 10AM, at Holy Name of Mary Church, Croton-on-Hudson, NY with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery, also in Croton.
