James Stellios Venturatos passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of 65 years to Evelyn Doussa Venturatos. Devoted father of Cynthia Venturatos Lamana (Eugene) and Gregory James Venturatos (Donna).

Loving grandfather to four grandchildren who affectionately called him Papou- Kristine and Stephen Lamana and James and Danielle Venturatos. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Doussa; nieces and nephews, Billie Andersson (Paul), Kathryn Lorio (Phil), Dr. Steve Venturatos (Carol), Stephanie Venturatos, and Steve Venturatos (Ann); and many great nieces and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stellios James and Elefteria Venturatos and his brothers, George Stellios and John Stellios Venturatos.

He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and twenty-seven years ago moved to Metairie. James was a graduate of Warren Easton and attended Loyola. He was a senior accountant with Shell Oil Company for 30 years. While there, he served as President of the Shell Employees Club of New Orleans for two years.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served on the church’s Board of Trustees. He also loved working the wine booth for the Annual Greek Festival for over 35 years. He was a member of Andrew Jackson chapter in New Orleans and served as Vice-President of the local chapter of AHEPA and also as Delta District Treasurer.

Upon retirement in 1986, Jim turned two of his favorite activities- eating and greeting- into long lasting assignments with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau and U.S. Department of Agriculture where he served on the sensory evaluation panel. He also loved to travel extensively with his wife to Europe and Asia. He enjoyed being with his loving children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until twelve at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1200 Robert E. Lee Boulevard, on Friday, October 20, 2017 with a funeral liturgy to follow at noon. Interment will be at St. Louis #3 Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral or Holy Trinity Archive Fund.
