James V. Norton, Sr., 70, of Bordentown, passed away peacefully after a long, courageous and unwavering battle with cancer on Monday, April 9, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance and hope to all those fortunate to have known him. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was a lifelong area resident. Jim loved his years at Trenton Catholic and then graduated from Cathedral High School. He was a graduate of the College of Steubenville, Ohio. Jim was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Army as a Radio Operator. He worked for the City of Trenton for 35 years, and retired as Director of Personnel. Jim was a voracious reader, a history buff, and he shared a special lifelong bond with his son over their love of sports. His devotion to his family, especially his grandchildren Ella and Evan, was extraordinary. No two grandchildren have ever been loved more, and they gave him the strength to endure. Jim appreciated the simple life and was most content sitting in his favorite chair with his Nook, a cup of coffee and looking upon the faces of those he loved most. He was happiest on vacation at Ocean City, NJ, surrounded by his beloved family and creating timeless memories. Predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Mary (Lukas) Norton, a close cousin, Nicholas Gonzales and his father and mother-in-law Frank and Doris Beres; he is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Linda (Beres) Norton; his loving children, James V. Norton, Jr. (Krista) and Lisa Rogers (Bryan); his adoring grandchildren, Ella Hope and Evan; his brother John “Jack” Norton (Anita); his brother-in-law, Frank Beres, Jr. (Agnieszka); his nieces and nephew, John Norton (Jennifer), Deneen Norton, Jacquelyn Scheideler (James) and Miranda Morreale; his great nephews, Jimmy, Aidan, and Liam; his longtime best friend, Bob Onda and his wife Karen; and several cousins. Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a service to follow at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton, NJ 08690. Special thanks to all of Jim’s caring doctors and nurses at Jefferson University Hospital and to Dr. David Schaebler at Capital Health Hopewell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Cancer Research Institute by visiting In Memory Of at www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
