James W. "J.W." Cox, Sr, 73, died Thursday morning (January 23, 2014) at Hospice House Satilla following a brief illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Ware County, being born and living his entire life on the same land in the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp. He attended the Braganza School. He was preceded in death by his wife, after 52 years of marriage, Marie Guy Cox, and was the only child of James Ancil Cox and Mandy Thelma Cox. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Vesta Cox Guy, a brother-in-law, Blackie Taylor, and a sister-in-law, Margie L. Guy. He had retired from the Ware County Road Department after many years of service and was a true outdoorsman as he loved to fish and hunt and just spending time riding the roads in and around the Okefenokee Swamp. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Theresa C. Cady (Kevin Howell), Jennifer C. Waters (husband Mitchell); two sons, James W."Jimmy" Cox, Jr. (wife Pam), and Bret Cox (wife Karen) all of Waycross; nine grandchildren, Winston Corbitt (wife Sharlie), Tyla Steedley (husband Steven), Kaysie Cady, Matthew Cady (wife Brittany), Mandy Landrum (husband Bruce), Jamie Cox, Cuyler Cox, Jessica Cox, and Jenna Waters.; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Carolyn Taylor of Waycross, Yvonne Peacock (husband John) of Blackshear, and Sandra Smith (husband David) of Waycross; brother-in-laws, Jesse J. Guy and David E. Guy (wife Rosemary) both of Waycross, and numerous other relatives. A funeral service will be at 11:00 Saturday (January 25, 2014) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Carter Cemetery on Swamp Road. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Bret and Karen Cox, 2549 Cactus St and from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at Music Funeral Home.
