James "Jimmy" W. Deshotel Sr., 65, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Lake Charles, LA. James was a welder for 29 years for Avondale Shipyards at the main yard. He transferred to Litton Avondale in Gulfport and worked there for 7 years as a small tool repairman and then retired. He was a devoted husband to Pamela E. Deshotel and loving father to his children, James Jr., (Nelia), Michelle, Shannon (Holly), and Marshall (Krystal), as well as loving grandfather to Gabbriela and Jewel. He leaves four brothers, John Deshotel, Paul "Red" Deshotel (Sandra), Edmond "Popeye" Deshotel (Geraldine), and K.O. Moore (Debbie) as well as one sister, Beulah Berry. Jimmy had numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved and treasured. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward Joseph Deshotel and Annie Mae Moore Deshotel, brothers Joseph "Milo" Deshotel, and Harry Lee Deshotel, and one sister, Helen Deshotel Guidry. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan, his favorite pastime was watching football and old westerns with his family.
A funeral service will be held at Cornerstone Church on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale. Express condolences at www.westsideleitzeagan.com.
