Jane Holley Harwood, age 61, passed away in Atlanta on Monday, January
15th after a four year battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband
Tony, mother Jan, brother Benjie, son JR, and step-children Sarah, Leslie
and Chris with spouses Joyce and John, and grand children Max, Carly,
Grant, and Lucy.
An Alabama farm girl, Jane spent her early adult years in Korea married to
a military officer. Returning to Atlanta she put herself through college and
raised a child while working as a marketing representative in the Data
Processing Division of IBM, where she received numerous sales and
managerial awards.
In 1987 Jane met and married Tony Harwood with whom she lived with
more than 30 years. Together they raised JR and Tony's daughter Sarah.
Her principal hobby was tennis, where she was a class A player. In 2012,
2015 and 2017 (despite her progressing illness) she won First Place in the
Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association annual team championships.
Jane and Tony traveled widely internationally and, with their dog Lana,
spent more than 1500 flight hours together in their small airplane touring
the USA, Canada and the Bahamas. During those travels she published a
website pettravelreviews.com.
Jane spent 30 summers on the Maine Coast and fell in love with its wild
nature. There she made lasting friends, planted beautiful gardens, and
participated in many sailing races in traditional gaff rigged sailing yachts.
Otherwise, she managed homes in Atlanta and St. Petersburg, FL. Jane
was a great cook and could always tell a good joke. She was the very
model of honesty and integrity and bravery. The family and friends she has
left behind can never replace her.
