Janet E. Albrecht (93) (born Janet Pridgen East) passed away on September 28, 2017. She was born on April 26, 1924 in South Boston, Virginia. She was the youngest of four children. Soon after her birth her family moved to her mother's home state of North Carolina. Janet grew up in Albemarle, Weldon and Asheville. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated with a degree in History in 1946.
Shortly after graduating she moved to Washington D.C. and began work at the National Archives. Just weeks after beginning she met a new colleague, G. Fred Albrecht. They began dating and fell in love. Janet was raised Presbyterian, but Fred's strong, sincere Catholic faith became the center of many of their conversations. Janet was convinced and was baptized a Catholic. She grew strong and devout in her faith. Fred and Janet married in 1948, moved across the Potomac River to Virginia and began a family. Janet gave birth to six boys and one girl.
One of the many highlights of their life was traveling on the ocean liner S.S. Independence to Europe and living there for 3 years. Janet and Fred travelled extensively all over Europe.
Janet is survived by her 7 children, (Douglas, Mark, Michael, Eric, Lauren, Brian and Kevin), 11 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Janet will be deeply missed. She will be remembered particularly for her love of nature and travel, love of music and love of literature, and her deep Christian faith.
A reception to honor her will be held Thursday, October 5 from 5 -8pm at Murphy's Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 6 at 1pm at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, Virginia. Following the burial there will be a catered reception at Murphy's Funeral Home.
