Mrs. Janice Hare Lucas, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2017 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Janice was born in Johnston County on April 28, 1934 the daughter of the late Milton & Maybelle Davis Hare. She was the wife of the late Nassie “Ralph” Lucas Jr., and is preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Lucas, Sr. and a brother Charles Bud Hare.



Janice spent her life in full-time ministry by persistently putting the need of others first. She was an intelligent, wise, gentle, principled and loving person with an insatiable curiosity. She welcomed new opportunities to learn and to grow. She served in accounting at both Thurston Motor Companies, and also National Geographic Magazine in Washington, DC, as secretary for the late Rev. Eddie Morris when he served as Superintendent of the North Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, a small business owner with her husband Ralph, a Kindergarten teacher for the Cumberland County Schools, a commissioner for the town of Falcon, historian for the town of Falcon, president of the Seniors Club of the Falcon/Godwin area, and in multiple capacities at her church to include Sunday School teacher, choir director, pianist and nursery worker. Those who have known her best remember her as a person who dedicated her time to caring for the needs of others especially her children and grandchildren.



A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Culbreth Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church in Falcon, NC, with Dr. Dan Woods & Rev. Blanche Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Falcon City Cemetery.



She is survived by: a Daughter-in-Law: Brenda Lucas of Falcon, NC; Son: Nassie R. “Chip” Lucas, III & (wife) Karen of Falcon, NC; Daughters: Claudia Lucas and (wife) Melissa Dziabo of Naples, Fl.; Sara Teal & (husband) Kenneth of Falcon, NC; A Sister: Joan Kaye Vondell & (husband) Fred of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Grandchildren: Angie Underwood, Ronald Lucas, Jr., Noah Lucas, Haven Lucas, Liam Lucas, Arlie Teal & Rohanen Teal; Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Gabriel, Logan, McKayla, MaKenna & Alex Pope; Brittany & Trey Lucas; The Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn.
