Janie Lucille Chandler, "Nanie", 79, of Abilene, passed away, Sunday, December 11, 2016. Service will be held at 2:00p.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Belmont Baptist Church, 2117 Palm Street, with burial to follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene.
Janie was born April 10, 1937 in Duncan, South Carolina, to Lethco and Cynthia Emory. She married C.W. "Charlie" Chandler in 1955 and traveled with him across the US and overseas; setting up households, raising two children, and faithfully supporting him during his military career. She was his rock and strength through his entire 31 years of active duty Air Force service. They settled in Abilene upon his last assignment and retirement from Dyess AFB in 1979. She was a remarkable woman with so many talents! Most notably, her wonderful and delicious cooking! From fork-tender pork chops, to elaborate Christmas trays, and scrumptious desserts...she cooked with love and passion. Every bite a nourishment of her love. She was not limited to culinary skills. She was also an experienced seamstress and proudly made many outfits for her children and grandchildren, as well as, blankets, curtains, and costumes for any occasion. She was an avid gardener and her green thumb could grow the best and most tasty summer tomatoes! And she gladly shared her summer bounties. She had a wonderful sense of humor; could tell a great joke, make a comical gag, and have everyone around chuckling. She could fill a room with love and laughter! Cook, seamstress, gardener, comedian....but her most cherished traits were those of a caring wife, loving mother and grandmother. She sacrificed her entire life to her family. She placed her family before self and adamantly supported and defended each and every family member. From unwavering devotion to her husband, to untiring attention to her children, she gave her time, her dreams, and her needs without any hesitation. She loved her family immeasurably.
Janie joins her beloved husband of over 59 years, Charlie. She was a dedicated wife, who stayed by his side through his battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, having ended last year. Surviving, her pride and joy, are her 2 devoted children, Kathryn Dominguez and Charles "Butch" Chandler; her 4 loving grandchildren, Kelly Dominguez, Christopher Chandler, Jennifer Gibson, and Monica Dominguez; and her 2 adoring great-grandsons, Jackson and Jevin Gibson. She will always be a loving memory in each of their hearts. She is also survived by her 4 sisters, Dot, Ruth, Ila, and Jeannette; 1 brother, Doug; and numerous sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws in South Carolina.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made, in her honor, to Belmont Baptist Church.
A very special thanks and much gratitude to her sister and brother-in-law, Ila and Coleman Masters, who have made numerous trips from South Carolina during the past years; and who brought a bit of "home" to her during the last few weeks of her life.
